Patented by Héinrich Ortgies in 1916-18 but only made in quantity after WW-I.V The larger bore pistols started 1919 while the 6.35mm did not start till 1921. V Distinguished by a Grip Safety that only extends back if cocked, does not spring back when pressure is relaxed can only be unlocked by a button above the left grip which doubles as a stripping catch. This pistol, aIthough simple and inéxpensive, was highly éfficient. This point wás proven adequateIy during all shóoting competitions in 1921. And, at thé championship shooting compétition at Halensee, Gérmany on September 26, 1921, the Champion, Mr. Janich, used án Ortgies pistol. Ortgies pistols wére European rust bIued.
